Name: Jan Valentine (his first name is pronounced "YON".)
Alternate Spellings: Yan (I prefer it the other way since that's how it is in the anime credits and Volume 2 of the manga... but "whatever works is cool.")
Appears in: Volume 2 of the manga, Order 05 and 06 of the anime. He and Luke are also featured in the weird little mini-comics that appear in every volume of the manga from Volume 2 onward.
Age: Unknown, probably somewhere between 19 and 25.
Appearance: His distinguishing features are the hat with the eye on it, and the numerous piercings. I like to describe his outfit as "the love child of a track suit and a Japanese school uniform."
Number of piercings in the anime: Seven; two in his left ear, one under his left eyelid, two in his nose and two in his lower lip.
Number of piercings in the manga: Varies; I've counted anywhere from eight to thirteen. (And of course there's always the possibilty that he's got some more that we can't see... ^_~)
Weapons: FN P90 submachine gun (for a picture click here), massive ghoul army.
Likes: Swearing, smoking, cola, women, drinking blood, and killing people.
Cause of death: Setting himself on fire. (Take that, Integra!)
"What the f&%$ is on his cola bottle?": The label on the cola bottle (seen in Order 05) reads "Toca Cola". My sister told me that "toca" is the third person-singular conjugation of the Spanish verb "tocar" (which means "to touch") and that maybe the animators were trying to make a bilingual pun. Then one of my friends pointed out that if the short form of "Coca Cola®" is "Coke®", then the short form of "Toca Cola" would be "Toke", and that maybe Jan is a pothead. Of course there's always my theory: the animation studio didn't want to get sued, so they made the label blue and changed one letter.
![]() | Luke Valentine Jan's older brother. Luke is the more mature (and supposedly the smarter) of the two. In the anime he and Jan run a vampire fetish bar.
![]() | Integra Hellsing Jan and Luke attack the Hellsing mansion with their ghoul army while the Round Table Conferance is going on. Jan taunts the Knights from over the intercom in his famous diatribe, which pisses off Integra. Then when Jan finally reaches the Round Table Conferance room, she shoots him in the face repeatedly and demands to know who's giving him orders. He laughs and sets himself on fire, which pisses her off even more.
![]() | Peter Fargason (anime only) After taunting the Knights from the saferoom intercom, Jan decides to kill Commander Fargason. However, his efforts are thwarted by...
![]() | Seras Victoria In the anime she shoots Jan full of holes to keeps him from killing the commander. In both the anime and manga she tackles him to save Walter. (He probably enjoyed it that time, though. ^_~)
![]() | Walter C. Ddollneazz Walter cuts up the front ranks of Jan's ghoul army with his killer dental floss. He also uses it to take off Jan's right arm when he runs for the Conferance room door. (As my friend Marcy put it, "No more mastubating for Jan!" ^_^)
![]() | Millenium (manga only) In the manga, Jan gives Integra a clue as to who he and Luke are working for before he expires. He shouts the word "Millenium", gives her the finger, and dies. Millenium is an organization made up of the remenants of the Nazi party. I can't be certain about this because I haven't read the manga past volume 5, but Jan and Luke were probably simply hired by Millenium to kill everyone at Helling mansion, but aren't seriously loyal to them. (I say this because I seriously doubt that either of the Valentine brothers is a Nazi; Jan probably just seized the opportunity because it meant he'd get to kill people. If I'm wrong about this, please let me know.) |
